"Cinderella" Movie Review

Wow. This movie was, for lack of a better word, MAGICAL. Lily James was an incredible Cinderella. She portrayed the character so perfectly. She handled her with a beautiful elegance. Richard Madden as Prince Kit Charming was flawless. He was so cute, sweet, kind, and loving. Helena Bonham Carter was an amazing fairy godmother. She was charming and funny as well as gorgeous! Cate Blanchett was absolutely wicked- and I mean wicked. She was hilarious and evil, but I kind of get why.

*Spoiler pictures ahead*

The transformation scene left nothing to be desired. It was just as magical as you remember from your childhood. Lily James was flawless. I don't know how she did it. That entire scene was so sweet and funny. The goose, lizards, and mice were absolutely adorable as they were being changed. Helena was hilarious as she transformed the pumpkin into the carriage, because she was forgetful and enchanting.

When Ella enters the ball, it's just- wow. Her entrance is so so wondrous. She and the prince have an awkward/romantic first dance in front of the entire kingdom and their chemistry is electric. They are enchanting together.

It was a nice change to just see a fairytale. Ella was just a good young woman with a loving heart. She wasn't trying to prove anything or be better than the men- she was just trying to be someone her parents would be proud of. She let the prince dazzle her and sweep her off her feet and that is something that speaks to all women. We want to be dazzled. We want a man who would search the entire kingdom (city, town, whatever) for us. No matter how much we deny it, or pretend it isn't true- it is. That being said, it doesn't mean we can't be strong and independent. I would hardly call Ella weak or dependent. She has to deal with her wicked step mother and dreadful step sisters, as well as keep up with an entire estate. She takes care of herself and 3 other people and she is does it kindly. She reminds herself to always have a kind heart while doing these tasks. That is a truly strong woman- being kind when others are treating us poorly.Cinderella is as beautiful as she is because of her spirit and her kindness- it's not just about her looks.

Also, if you think this movie pits women against each other based on looks, or
that it only values looks then you have missed something magical. Have courage and be kind.
