Shadowhunters - Recap "Day of Wrath" (S02E04)

Clary races to the City of Bones to visit with Jace. She makes her way down into the City and is greeted by one of the Silent Brothers. He takes her to Jace who is surprised to see Clary. She says she will do whatever it takes to free him, but Jace tells her that he deserves to be there. He also asks Clary not to visit him again and she is forced to leave. Clary returns to the Institute in time to go out in the field with Alec to investigate a demon attack.

Aldertree brings in Raphael to "discuss" Camille and ends up securing him to a chair and using UV light laser beams to cut into his skin. Poor Raphael. He goes to Magnus who is appalled to see what Aldertree did to him and works on restoring his skin. Simon joins them and they decide to find Camille.

Clary and Alec find a mundane with a hole in their chest and end up finding a young woman who is terrified and confused with blood covering her hand. She has no memory of what's happened to her and Alec and Clary put 2 and 2 together. They bring the body back to the Institute where Izzy is going to do an autopsy, but it appears that the demon needs a living host. Meanwhile Jocelyn shares the news that the Clave is requestign she transfer to Idris. She tells Clary first and asks her to go with her. Clary says she needs to think about it. When Jocelyn tells Luke he says he will go with her and she insists he can't give up his life again for her, then they FINALLY kiss! He says he would go anywhere with her.

Soon the Shadowhunters realize the demon is in the Institute and they go on lock down hunting for it. Raj is taken over by the smoke demon and he viciously goes after Lydia. He is cruel to her and ruthlessly attacks her. Lydia does her best to fight him off, but becomes seriously injured. Alec comes upon them and shoots at Raj, watching the smoke demon leave him and go into the vents. Meanwhile, Izzy and Clary are underground tracking the demon and Izzy asks if Clary is going to Idris. She says she isn't sure yet and Izzy wants her to stay.

Magnus, Simon, and Raphael finally discover what is in the box they took from Camille: her grave dirt. Raphael tells them that a vampire's grave dirt can be used to summon them and the only one who can open her box is Simon, because he has her blood in his veins (thanks to her being his sire). Simon opens the box and there is the dirt. They ask Magnus to use the dirt to summon her, but he is very conflicted about it. He explains to Simon later on that he and Camille are like Simon and Clary. Camille has been there for him through everything and he knows she has gone too far, but it hurts him to think of turning her in. He shares that she saved him from killing himself at one time and Simon begins to see why this decision is so hard for Magnus: he must choose between his best friend/former lover and his vampire foster sons.

Jace is interrogated by Aldertree with the Soul Sword (a sword blessed by the Angel that forces them to tell the truth). Aldertree asks Jace if he can pledge his full allegiance to the Clave and with difficulty Jace admits that he cannot pledge his full allegiance. Aldertree continues to question him, asking him questions about Valentine, and then goes a step further by asking Jace if he has brotherly feelings for Clary. Jace is clearly tortured by this question, but the truth is forced out when he says no. Aldertree looks all too pleased. Jace is returned to his cell and only has nightmares thanks to the Silent Brothers. His neighbor in the cell over is none other than Hodge who says Jace was right to take his hand.

Clary comes upon Alec who is sitting in the hallway looking confused with a bloody hand. She runs past him into her room only to find her mother dead on the floor. That's right you guys, Jocelyn Fray/Fairchild is dead. Clary falls to the ground in grief and Alec peaks in to see what he's done. He can't believe it. Clary leaves and he cleans himself up until he comes across Isabelle who is now possessed. She comes after him and he tries to fight her off without hurting her. Clary stabs her in the shoulder to get the demon out of her and when it is released Clary kills it. Alec takes Izzy to the infirmary and Simon shows up. He is confused about what is going on.

Valentine attacks the City of Bones and kills some of the Silent Brothers will getting the Soul Sword. Hodge helps Jace get out of his cell and is killed for it by a Circle member. Jace fights them as they make their way to the portal where Valentin stands with the sword. He tells Jace to come with him and for the members to kill Aldertree. Aldertree yells at Jace to get the sword, but Jace can't let him die. He fights off the Circle members and saves Aldertree, but loses the sword. Aldertree brings him back to the Institute where he walks in on the aftermath of the demon attack, which they realize was sent by Valentine, so they would be distracted and he could get the Soul Sword. Jace sees Simon comforting Clary and you can tell it pains him that he can't comfort her right now. He leaves to check on Izzy while Alec is overcome by guilt.

Magnus summons Camille and traps her in a cage. She's not worried and reminds Magnus that he knows she will always be there for him and that's why he would never actually turn her into the Clave- especially not for 1 or 2 vampires. Magnus tells her that this is hurting him and he appreciates who she was, but that's not who she is anymore and she has gone too far. He must protect his family and with that he portals her off to the Clave.

Shadowhunters - Recap "A Parabati Lost" (S02E03)

Alec is not doing well. The tracking spell has not worked in Alec is trapped in some sort of coma. Magnus is working to keep him alive, but he is unable to bring him back. He and Izzy are very tense. Everyone is looking for Clary and Jace in an effort to bring Jace close to Alec and wake him up, but of course all of this must be done without the Clave noticing.

Jace wakes up on a beach with a dead body which he recognizes as Gretel, the werewolf he refused to kill. A mundane jogging on the beach runs into Jace, who can't find his steele, and is understandably horrified when she sees Gretel's dead body. She calls the police and Jace runs. Luke is the officer who arrives on the scene and is upset to see Gretel's body. Alaric wants revenge on Jace and Luke wants to find out what really happened, but he guarantees that if Jace is responsible then he will be killed. Jace continues to run, stopping at a bar, and asking the bartender if he can use their phone. The woman calls him out on being a Shadowhunter, and eventually agrees to let him use it.

Clary returns to the Institute after an unsuccessful search for Jace. She is interrogated by Aldertree, but she insists she remembers nothing after Dot opened the portal. Izzy runs into Clary and lets her know what is going on with Alec. She gets a phone call from Jace which Clary listens in on and Izzy lets him know how dire Alec's situation is. They form a plan to get Alec and Jace together at Magnus' without Aldertree knowing.

Jace attempts to leave the bar and Maia stops him, asking him to help them find Gretel. Jace is in a hurry and refuses so Maia calls for backup from another wolf in the bar. This wolf recognizes him as one of the ones who kidnapped Gretel and a fight ensues. Jace is thrown out the window and tries to run. He doesn't get far before collapsing in front of many concerned mundanes who end up calling an ambulance for him. Maia angrily watches the ambulance take him away. Luke informs Maia and the rest of the pack that they are not to kill Jace until they know for sure that he killed Gretel. Maia is not happy with this order at all, she wants justice for her friend's death.

Meanwhile, Simon has been avoiding his mom for a while now and the guilt is really getting to him. Raphael insists that this is only getting in the way of his search for Camille and tells him that it's best to let go of his family and realize that they're going to die and he'll continue to live forever, never changing. Simon ignores Raphael and returns to his mom's house, and is alarmed when he can't find her. He finds alcohol in her room and fears she has fallen off the wagon. He calls Clary asking her to help him find his mom. Izzy gives Clary her blessing to go and says she'll let her know what happens with Alec and Jace.

Aldertree refuses Izzy's request to move Alec out of the Institute for treatment and even leaves Raj to watch them. Aldertree is desperate to lure Jace out of hiding even if it costs Alec his life. Raj tries to force Magnus to leave, so Magnus uses his magic to knock him out. He then uses Raj as a body double for Alec and portals the real Alec to his apartment.

Jace wakes up in the hospital and tries to escape, but he runs into Maia who phases in the middle of the hospital. She chases him until Jace is pulled through a door which is marked shut by none other than Jocelyn. She guides him to the roof and offers to help him and wants to apologize, but he refuses to listen and runs off on his own towards Magnus'.

Aldertree checks on Alec and notices something is up with Izzy. He discovers the shape-shifting rune and the two end up striking a deal. He tells her that Luke's pack believes Jace killed one of their own and they're hunting him. She knows he would be safe under the protection of the Clave. She asks Aldertree for a portal to Jace so he can save Alec and promises to turn Jace in afterward. Aldertree agrees and sends her on her way.

Clary uses a tracking rune to find Mrs. Lewis. They find her at a restaurant and Clary encourages Simon to come clean with his mom and tell her that he is a vampire. She thinks his mom will still love him if she knows the truth. Clary leaves to go see Luke and Simon goes into the restaurant only to find his mom having dinner with Raphael. He has told Elaine (Mrs. Lewis) that he's Simon's band manager and that the band is doing really well and touring which is why Simon hasn't been around. When Elaine steps away Raphael threatens her life if Simon fails to find Camille.

Clary and Luke are informed by Alaric that Maia is tracking Jace and ready to kill. They rush to get there before it's too late. Jace is cornered by Maia and another wolf and he pleads with them to allow him to get to Alec. He swears he didn't kill Gretel and he apologizes for what happened to her. He begs them to allow him to save his brother. Luke demands they stand down and Clary affirms Jace's story, but the pack is ready to attack. Izzy arrives just in time and uses her whip to stop the attack. Luke goes into Alpha mode, forcing the others to submit to him. Clary, Izzy, and Jace run off to Magnus' where they find Alec who is in very bad shape.

Jace goes to his brother and begs him not to leave him. He begins reciting their Parabati oath until Alec goes limp and drops the stone. Jace holds him tightly as he succumbs to his emotions until Alec quietly recites the last line of the oath. Everyone breathes a sigh of relief. The happy moment is short lived though when Aldertree and his officers come in and arrest Jace.

Shadowhunters - Recap "A Door Into the Dark" (S02E02)

Jocelyn obviously doesn't succeed in her attempt to kill Jace/Jonathan and she's not happy. Clary is of course extremely upset and confused. Jocelyn insists that she just doesn't understand. She tells Clary that Valentine experimented on her when she was pregnant with Jonathan and injected him with demon blood. She shares a memory from when he was a baby and she was picking flowers with him. She handed her son a flower and his eyes went black and the flower withered. It was creepy to watch and it clearly scared Jocelyn.

Simon is summoned to see Aldertree who wants information. Simon jokingly says that the information he wants is above his paygrade and that will not bode well for him. After he leaves the Institute, he goes back to the Jade Wolf where the pack greets him. They make it clear that they dislike him and want him gone. Poor Simon. He is greeted in his shipping container by Raphael. He is furious with Simon for saying anything to Aldertree. He demands that Simon use his sire bond to find Camille and bring her back otherwise, Raphael will have to pay for her crimes. Apparently the Clave burns off a vampire's body parts one by one as punishment. This is not good.

Aldertree and Lydia summon a meeting in the Institute and everyone but Clary is invited. Lydia is discussing the strange disappearences of various boxers, karate instructors,..etc. around the city and how the Clave believes Valentine is responsible. It is believed that he has figured out that these people have a better chance of making the change to a Shadowhunter when they are in this peak physical condition. She stumbles upon it at the end of the meeting and Alec makes it clear that she isn't wanted around there. He also tells her that everything that has happened has been her fault. She asks Lydia about why she wasn't included and before Lydia can talk to her Aldertree intervenes and reams Lydia. Jocelyn tries to make it clear that she had nothing to do with Clary not being included.

Alec and Izzy are sent on a mission to a secret fight club to set up a trap for any of Valentine's Circle members who might appear to kidnap a well trained fighter. Izzy gets into it with a big creepy guy who is too big for his britches and naturally she kicks his a$$. When a Circle member does appear, he tries to take this guy, but it's just Izzy using a disguise rune. Alec angrily questions the Circle member who slits his own throat instead of answering the questions. Alec is extremely frustrated about getting no closer to Jace.

Simon finds Magnus and asks for his help. He needs to find Camille and he doesn't know how. Magnus says he will help but only for a price- a lock of Simon's hair. Magnus takes Simon to Camille's home in Agra. He tells Simon to find Camille while he finds his things that Camille never returned to him. Simon wonders around until he gets locked in a room with a serpent statue. He rubs the statute and it opens. Before Simon can take the box, a snake comes slithering on the floor. Simon is terrified and he cowers. The snake hisses fire at him before Simon figures out how to control it and make it go away. Magnus comes in and says he gave the snake to Camille as a pet and whatever is in the box must be important if it's being guarded. He also hides away a dagger he took before they return to New York.

Clary runs away from the Institute and there is a stunning shot of her walking down a New York street going the opposite direction of the dark mundane crowd as her vibrant red hair lights up the screen. It was a beatiful visul. Clary goes to the Art School and works on her sketches, trying to pretend like she is normal again. Jocelyn is worried and finds Luke. She asks him to talk to Clary for her because she'll actually listen to him. They find Clary and try to talk about what has been going on and she won't listen. She runs outside and is kidnapped in the street by...wait for it...DOT! That's right, our sweet warlock Dot is back and bad now? She pulls Clary through a portal right before Jocelyn and Luke's eyes. Uh oh.

Jace meets some of Valentine's new recruits and wonders why they're there. One talks about how horrible Downworlders are and how they need to be destroyed. He tells Jace that his father was murdered by a werewolf and he wants revenge. Valentine suggests Jace lead the hunt for this wolf as his expertise would be invaluable to his new help. Jace refuses to be apart of it because that is not his job. He reminds Valentine that his job is to bring them to the Clave and protect the mundanes from demons; the Clave is supposed to handle these matters and even though the Law is hard it is the Law.

Jocelyn returns to the Institute and seeks out Alec & Isabelle. Luke has given her a stone that can connect Parabati even when they're around water, but it is extremely dangerous to use. Izzy refuses to let Alec do it, but eventually he wins out. He wants Jace and Jocelyn knows if they find Jace they will find Clary. They're both clearly desperate.

Clary is brought to Valentine's ship of horrors and cannot believe what she is seeing. All of these messed up Downworlders in cages and very angry. She doesn't understand. Dot tells her that she wants to show her the future and she grabs Clary's head. Clary sees a terrifying vision of fire and destruction.

Clary joins Jace on the deck of the boat and Jace is freaked out. Clary proves that it is actually her and not Valentine in disguise and she tells Jace that he has to go lead this hunt. She tells him about her vision and how she was wrong. Jace isn't sure he is hearing her right. Valentine appears and welcomes his daughter, inviting her to lead the hunt since Jace won't. Jace changes his mind and says he will go. When Clary wakes up she is in a cage in the same room with the Downworlders. She is scared and confused and Dot appears. Dot admits to controlling her because Valentine ordered her too. Clary doesn't understand why Dot is working for him and Dot explains that he experimented on her and she has to do as she's told- she can't go against him or he'll torture her. She wonders why Clary stopped looking for her and Clary tearfully tells her they thought she was dead. She tells Dot that she was like an older sister to her and they can escape together and Magnus can protect her.

Simon tries getting into the box and so does Magnus but neither are successful. Magnus sets out the mysterious dagger and assures Simon that they will find a way. He then tells Simon that when he first discovered his powers, he had no one there to help him and he promised himself that if he ever met someone in that situation that he would help them as best he could. It's an interesting duo and very cool to see Magnus essentially take Simon under his wing.

Valentine, his new buddy, and Jace are interogatting a shewolf from Luke's pack (the one who was really mean to Simon) about killing a mundane. She denies it and Valentine tells Jace to kill her. Jace can't go it. Clary appears and Valentine thinks that she is going to convince Jace to kill the wolf. Clary grabs him and tells him to run, and they do. They run straight towards a few of Valentine's messed up Shadowhunters. Valentine yells for Jace to come back, but Jace kills them. Dot appears and opens a portal which Clary and Jace jump through. It doesn't look like Dot makes it through as well. Valentine then grabs the sword and kills the shewolf himself.

Alec is in seriously bad shape as a result of this stone and it is looking like this could actually kill him. Jocelyn and Izzy just watch in terror unable to help him.

Bonus: Izzy and Clary share a sweet moment where Izzy tells her that Alec is just upset and not to worry because she will always be there for Clary. Seriously obsessed with this friendship.

Shadowhunters - Recap "The Guilty Blood" (S02E01)

What. A. Premiere.

We start off on Valentine's ship of doom where we find that a lot of his test subjects did not survive the transition to becoming a shadowhunter. Jace is on the ship and Clary arrives to break him out. Valentine appears and Jace kills him. He and Clary make a run for it, stumbling upon a terrifying chamber with equipment and tons of locked up Downworlders. Valentine appears again and Jace (who is clearly confused) kills him again. Clary is then revealed to be the real Valentine in disguise and he was testing Jace. He's obviously not happy about the fact that Jace has tried to kill him. He chains Jace up and tortures him.

Clary spends some time with Jocelyn who finds out Simon is now a vampire and that her son, Jonathan, is actually alive. Clary doesn't understand why Jocelyn isn't more excited about this, and she's clearly getting upset about being lied to all of her life. Jocelyn promises no more lies. Meanwhile, at the Institute the Clave has sent someone new to take over as they no longer believe Lydia can do the job. Her replacement is Aldertree and we hate him. He declares that they will find Jace alive or dead and anyone who doesn't help will be de-runed.

Valentine tries to bond with Jace bringing up memories from the past like how much Jace loves spaghetti. Jace is rejecting Valentine's advances. Valentine tells Jace that he's different and shares with him that there is a reason why he is so different from the other Shadowhunters. He shares a vision of when Jocelyn was pregnant with Jace, and Valentine injected the fetus with pure demon blood. Jace is completely repulsed by this as he realizes why he is so fast and so powerful: he has demon blood in his veins. Valentine argued that he did this in an effort to create a perfect Shadowhunter who would have an advantage against the demons.

Aldertree makes Luke and Simon leave, saying they're not welcome at the Institute. Luke lets Simon stay at the Jade Wolf because the sun will be up soon and he doesn't have anywhere to go. When Luke leaves the other werewolves force Simon into a shipping container and lock him in there. They're clearly upset about having a vampire in their midst. Clary and Izzy train together while Aldertree watches them, knowing he needs to keep a close eye on them. It's amazing to see how far Clary has come. Alec is losing his mind over what is going on with Jace and he goes against Lydia. Maryse follows him and chastises him telling him that Jace is a cancer and needs to be cut out. He reminds her that Jace is her son and part of their family and she says he's not.Alec leaves.

Clary sneaks out of  the Institute disguised as Aldertree and goes to Luke for help. She hears Simon and goes to let him out. She opens the door and Jocelyn appears. She asks Clary for her cell phone and stele. She takes them and locks Clary and Simon in the container. She casts a tracking spell on Jace's gloves and is successful. Jace has gotten off the Valentine's boat so he can be tracked now. Simon and Clary try to escape and it's during this time that Simon nearly confesses his love for Clary. The door breaks down and they make their getaway to find Jace. They arrive in time to witness Jocelyn shoot an arrow at Jace. Valentine appears out of nowhere and takes the arrow before pulling Jace through a portal.

Poor Jace. His adoptive mom thinks of him as a horrible cancer to be killed and his biological mother tried to kill him.

Shadowhunters Recap - "Rise Up" (S01E09)

Talk about dramatic. This episode was just all over the place! It was crazy.

First, we catch up with Simon who is running away and freaking out. Raphael finds him and tries to assure/calm him down. Simon refuses and blames Raphael for his transition. He throws him against a truck and takes off. Clary and Jace catch up and question Raphael. He sends them after Simon and says he can only help when Simon is ready to accept it. He also lets Clary know that Simon doesn't know who turned him. Jace calls Alec for help.

Back at the Institute, Alec is being stitched up by his father and Izzy answers his phone. She tells Jace about the Forsaken attack and that this creature had magic and Seelie properties in it's blood. Jace says he is on his way. He tells Clary to get Luke to help her find Simon and they'll figure out the rest later. They agree they need to talk about their relationship, but settle for a kiss instead. Jace arrives at the Institute to find out what's going on. Magnus is there casting protection spells all over the Institute and he offers to heal Alec, but he declines and walks away. Magnus asks where he can find Lydia so they can discuss his payment.

Lydia brings in Meliorn for questioning and Izzy is furious. She demands to know why. Lydia says Izzy should also be arrested for practically committing treason by sharing secrets with Meliorn. They argue and Lydia walks away to interrogate the prisoner. Alec tells Izzy to be paitient and Jace agrees. They watch the interrogation live. Meliorn reveals that Valentine's daughter has the Mortal Cup and Lydia is pissed. She has shadowhunters search Clary's room. Jace and Izzy agree they need a plan. Alec tells Jace he needs to have Clary come in and hand over the Cup, or he'll do it himself. Jace makes him promise to wait until Clary gets there and that he'll bring her back. Alec agrees.

Clary goes to Luke and they track down Simon. Clary tells Simon the truth about who turned him and apologizes. She shares that she just couldn't lose him. She gets a call from Jace who tells her that the Clave knows she has the Cup and she needs to go somewhere they'll never look to find her. Simon runs off again.

He has returned home and his mother is so happy to see him. She holds him and he tries to refrain but he nearly bites her until Clary runs in. She lies and says her identity has been stolen and she needs Simon's help. Ms. Lewis isn't sure he should leave but Clary pleads with Simon who ultimately agrees to help. Clary promises to take care of Simon. They leave and head to the Hotel Dumort. Raphael meets them and Luke outside and the animosity between Luke and Raphael is obvious. Clary tells Raphael that the Clave is looking for her and she needs a place to hide and they also have to protect Simon in order to prove that Camille broke the Accords. Raphael agrees to hide them. He locks them together in a cage, knowing the Simon is starving. He reminds them that they're no longer equals and Simon will always be a downworlder and Clary will always be a Shadowhunter.

Alec agrees with Lydia about taking Meliorn to the Silent Brothers which is basically a death sentence. Jace and Izzy protest, but his mind is made up. He shares that their parents were Circle members who made a deal with the Clave, but now that Valentine is on the loose they can't be trusted. He is clearly very angry and feels like he has been lied to his entire life.  They also share the news of their engagement and no one is pleased about it. Izzy and Jace start to put together a plan. They go to Magnus and ask him to steal Alec's steele so they can get the Cup and get it into safe hands. Magnus reluctantly agrees. Magnus gets the steele to Jace who breaks into the vault and gets the Cup and Clary's necklace. Alec tells Magnus about his engagement and he is clearly heartbroken. Jace and Izzy are about to sneak out when Hodge finds them. He questions them, and they come clean. He pretends he doesn't see them.

Clary apologizes again to Simon and he yells. He can hear her heart beat and he wants to drink her blood. He finally yells for Raphael who brings him blood. He feeds and starts to calm down. He tells Clary he's upset, but he doesn't hate her. They promise to be there for each other. Raphael releases them as Jace and Izzy show up outside. Jace and Izzy inform Clary about what's happening with Meliorn and she agrees that they have to stop it, but they'll need help. Luke says the pack will help and Clary says they'll need the vampires too. They go upstairs to talk to them and Clary pleads with Raphael. He says he will agree only if Simon pledges his allegiance to Raphael. Simon agrees and Clary tries to stop him. Simon tells her that this is his role to take in this war. Clary nods and agrees that it's time for all species to become equals.

They go to the downworlder entrance of the Silent City and start their plan. The wolves and vampires almost get into it, after some kind of funny banter, but Clary intervenes. She reminds them that they have to work together or they'll never get this done. Slowly, they work together taking down the Shadowhunters escorting Meliorn. Clary and Jace realize Alec is also with him and they hope they can reason with him. Alec brings Meliorn to the entrance and Clary begs him not too. He disagrees and Jace intervenes. He demands to know what is going on and Alec is pissed that Jace is suddenly breaking the rules because of Clary. They start fighting and Clary and Meliorn take off. Jace yells that he knows why Alec hates Clary so much, that it's about him. Alec flips out and they fight until Alec pulls his seraph blade on Jace. Jace tells him to do it, because he doesn't want to live in a world where they're on opposite sides. Jace asks Alec to come with them so they can find Valentine and fight him the right way. He begs him as his parabatai to come but Alec refuses and Jace leaves.

Meliorn can't believe that everyone worked together to save him and that the shadowhunters orchestrated it. The vampires go back to the hotel and the wolves go back to the Jade Wolf. Izzy kisses Meliorn before returning to the Institute to find out what's going on. Meliorn thanks Clary for all she did and offers a gift. He tells her he can help her find Valentine.

Shadowhunters Recap - "Bad Blood" (S01E08)

Wow. This was emotional.

Clary and Jace discuss the cup, and the "rules" of being a shadowhunter. Izzy makes sure to include her own rule, "There isn't anything a Shadowhunter can't do in heels." The four shadowhunters discuss what to do with the Cup now that they have it. Alec is of course all for handing it over to the Clave which Izzy supports. Clary disagrees and reminds them that this is her only chance to get her mother back and Jace takes her side. Alec knows there is no use in arguing with these 2, so he agrees. Clary puts the Cup back into the card and follows Alec. He places the card in a floor safe and Clary thanks him for all of his help. He still isn't happy about her being there.

They see a downworlder approaching the Institute so they head outside armed and ready. That's when they see Raphael (the vampire) approaching and carrying something- that something being Simon's body. Clary is shocked at what she sees and clearly upset. They all go to the basement and Clary demands to know what happened. Raphael shares that Camille did this to him and Simon is a fledgling or a newly transitioning vampire. He tells her that she basically has 2 choices: she can either bury him and allow him to complete his transition or stake him in the heart and let him die. If she doesn't stake him, then his soul will be trapped for eternity, and if she buries him there is a chance that he won't surface and he will be stuck underground and starving for eternity. Clary is repulsed by both choices and Jace and Izzy warn against changing him. Izzy leaves to join Alec for a meeting with their parents. Clary is told she has until that night to make her choice.

Alec and Izzy are informed that a representative from the Clave will be temporarily running the Institute as their credibility as leaders has come into question. Alec and Izzy are angry about this, but the Lightwoods promise it won't be for long. Alec heads downstairs where he runs into Max, and asks him to behave for the next few days. Alec promises that if he behaves, he'll get Max his steele back. As they talk, Valentine walks in through the front door and Alec shoots an arrow which he catches. Valentine takes out his steele and then it is revealed that it's not Valentine at all but a woman. She introduces herself as Lydia Blackwell and she's the representative from the Clave. She's upset by the poor reaction time from everyone except for Alec.

Clary, Jace, and Raphael sit with Simon's body as Clary thinks over what to do. She's upset with herself for not being there for Simon and for introducing him to the Shadow world. She takes a glamoured Jace to visit Mrs. Lewis to tell her that Simon won't be coming home. Jace asks if she can actually go through with this and she insists she can. When Mrs. Lewis comes in she is clearly worried about Simon and begs Clary for information. She says she doesn't know what she would do if something happened to him and her children are her life. She asks Clary if he's doing drugs and Clary promises he isn't on drugs. She can't bring herself to tell Mrs. Lewis so she says she saw him recently and he's ok. She and Jace go up to Simon's room and are shocked by the damage. Clary goes through his room and collects things. She still feels guilty and Jace tells her a story about a boy who got a falcon from his dad. The boy was told to make the falcon obey him, and when he brought the bird to his father and showed him that it came back to him, his father snapped the bird's neck. The boy was devestated and Jace says that the boy was told to make the bird obedient, not to love the bird. Emotions cloud judgement, he says. Clary tells him that goes against the first rule of being a mundane which is love makes you stronger and it makes you fight harder. She refuses to become emotionless just so she can be a shadowhunter.

Alec gets a call from Luke and Lydia is curious to know why he is getting a call from the local wolfpack leader. He says a Forsaken attacked their base and he wants Alec to take a look. Lydia insists on going with him. When they get to the Jade Wolf, Lydia apologizes for being so harsh but she takes her job seriously. She tells Alec about how she followed her heart once before and married the love of her life and they were all set to run their own Institute together, until he was killed. She says that in their line of work, it's best to just love the work. The are surprised by the amount of damage to the restaurant and Luke greets them. He says there was something  different about this Forsaken- that it was a lot harder to kill and a lot more determined. He suspects Valentine sent it. Lydia looks it over and wants it sent back to the Institute for an autopsy. Lydia accidentally spills the beans that Alec's parents are former Circle members.

Clary and Jace pay a visit to see Luke and are concerned about what happened with the Forsaken. Clary tells Luke about Simon and asks for his advice. Luke is upset about Simon and says he loves him like a son, then shares what happened when he made his first transformation. He says the choice was his and Jocelyn stayed with him, begging him to live and go through with it even though he wanted to kill himself. In the end, he dealt with his new reality because he had Jocelyn and then Clary to take care of. He promises Clary that things will be horrible for Simon, but they will get better. He asks her to make sure that if she changes Simon, it is for him and not for herself.

Magnus checks the Forsaken for magic while Izzy works on it and he takes the results to Alec. He's distracted when he sees Alec boxing shirtless. They talk about duty and what you have to do. Alec is angry about being lied to by his parents and working for the Clave and following rules for nothing. Magnus encourages him to break the rules. Alec goes to talk to his parents, and overhears Lydia telling them that the Clave is taking over the Institute because they can't be trusted with Valentine on the loose. Alec walks in and gives his parents the results, even though Lydia says to give it to her. Mrs. Lightwood is clearly touched by her son's brave move. Once they leave, Alec and Lydia talk and he decides that it's time he follows his heart. He proposes to Lydia and reminds her they can run the Institute together.

Izzy finds something on the Forsaken and is shocked. She thinks it's part angel. She goes to find her family to let them know. Meanwhile, another Forsaken gets into the Institute and attacks Hodge. They battle and Hodge almost loses until Alec steps in. The two of them fight the Forsaken and finally take it down. Izzy is shocked at the scene and is grateful everyone is ok.

Raphael, Jace, and Clary head to the graveyard with Simon. Clary has made her choice. Before they can do anything, Camille shows up and demands Simon's body. She wants to get rid of him so there is no proof that she broke the Accords. Clary and Jace prepare to fight but Raphael challenges her and her authority. She brings out the other vampires, and he tells her that they are tired of her ways and don't want her to be their leader anymore. The vampires attack her and chase her off. Raphael is now in charge. Clary digs Simon's grave and sits and waits with Jace. Simon emerges and Raphael gives him blood bags to drink. Simon is horrified when he realizes what's going on and Clary tells him he's still her best friend, but Simon thinks he's nothing more than a monster and takes off. Raphael promises Clary he'll look out for him.

Shadowhunters Recap - "Major Arcana" (S01E07)

Clary tells Jace and Magnus that she knows where the cup is: it's in the Ace of Cups tarot card her mom painted for Dot. Now they have to figure out how to get the cards from Dot before Valentine realizes it. Luke lets them know that he cleaned out the apartment and stored everything in his desk at work. Clary and Jace accompany Luke to the precinct and agree to wait outside. When Luke walks to his desk he is met by the Chief and an Internal Affairs officer who informs him that he's under investigation. The IA officer takes Luke to interrogation which Jace sees thanks to one of his runes. They glamour themselves and sneak in the interrogation room and unplug the camera. Luke warns them that he's not the only downworlder that works there so they have to be careful and assume everyone has the Sight. Clary comes up with a plan.

Clary yells at Jace and then slaps him before running to Luke's desk yelling that they're over. The Chief is there and asks Clary if this was the boy she was talking about and she says yes. The Chief tells him to get out and stay away from Clary so the officers escort him out. Clary says she forgot her house key and wanted to get Luke's spare out of his desk. The Chief tells Clary that all of the stuff in his desk is up in the evidence room and she can't get it. Clary thanks her and pretends to find her key and leave. Jace is bewildered that Clary slapped him and insisted that next time he'll bring Alec because he's never slapped him. He comes up with another plan.

Mr. Lightwood notices Izzy has changed her style and started wearing her hair back like her mother's. He questions it and she says she's grown up. He asks where Alec is because he needs to fill out reports for the Clave. Izzy isn't sure where Alec is, but she insists that she can do it. He's proud of her and she heads off to do her work. Later on, Alec comes in and she asks if he spent the night at Magnus' place. He says yes but they didn't do much sleeping-meaning they were taking care of Luke. She doesn't buy it and he says Magnus made cocktails and that was it- nothing happened. Alec gets a call from Jace and is informed that they know where the Cup is, but they need help getting it. He and Izzy head over to the Station.

Jace and Clary glamour themselves again and end up in a small room together. They sneak out and into an elevator unnoticed. Meanwhile, Luke is released from interrogation and goes to talk to the Chief when he notices blood coming out of a closet door. He finds her in there with a slit throat. Alaric tells Luke and the IA officer that she has been dead for hours, but the IA officer insists they had just spoken 45 minutes ago. Luke and Alaric deduce that a demon is behind this and Alaric goes to run some tests.

Izzy tells Alec he needs to cause a distraction because she no longer does that sort of thing. He insists she's better at it, but she refuses. He goes into the Precinct and tries to flirt with the woman at the desk, it doesn't go well and he spills her water. As they try to clean it up, Izzy grabs her security pass and heads inside. She uses a rune to cut the power to the whole place. Meanwhile, Clary and Jace are in the elevator and he tells her to copy one of his runes so she will have night vision. She struggles drawing it so he assists her while they wait for the sign. The power goes out and they climb out of the elevator and up to the evidence room where they search for Luke's things. After a close call with a patrol officer, they find it. Clary pulls out the card and tries reaching in it but can't. Jace isn't happy and they try to leave. They meet Izzy and Alec out front and Alec is mad that Clary doesn't have the Cup in hand. They start to leave and notice they're being followed. Izzy's necklace pulses to tell them demons are around.

Clary falls behind and is almost attacked by a demon pretending to be a grandma. Jace kills her and they notice more demons coming for them. Clary grabs everyone and leads them down through the electrical room. Alec decides to stay and fight off the demons so they can get Clary to the Institute. Jace doesn't want to leave him behind, but has to. More demons find them, and Jace says they have to split up and Clary has to get to the Institute. He and Izzy take off to lead the demons away so Clary takes off. She gets cornered by the demons and pulls out the card, reaching in and taking out the Cup. She commands the demons to go away and they obey. She takes off and runs into Jace. She tells him what happened and he says he's proud of her and she should give him the Cup for safe keeping. Clary pulls out her seraph blade and stabs him as she realizes he isn't the real Jace. For a moment, she thinks she stabbed the real Jace until he bursts into dust. Luke and Alec run up to her and she freaks out, demanding they prove who they are. Luke tells her what he got her for her birthday and she relaxes and tells them she has the Cup. They head back to the Institute.

As they walk in, they see Jace commanding everyone to stop what they're doing and put the place on high alert. He tells them that right now "Clary is the only thing that matters." Clary calls out to him and runs downstairs to see him. They hug and she tells him she got the cup. He tells her he doesn't care about the Cup, he was worried when he didn't see her come out of the tunnels. She tells him about the demon and he asks if she's ok and what she did. She tells him she sent it back to hell and he laughs and asks how she knew it wasn't him. She tells him she does actually pay attention to his advice and she paid attention to the details. She just knew. He's impressed and she grabs him and kisses him. They kiss passionately as Alec looks on sadly before walking away.

Meanwhile, Simon has been freaking out this entire episode and is convinced he's becoming a vampire. He slept with Maureen then called her Clary then he freaked out and took off. Maureen told his mom and sister who asked him if he's on drugs. He swears he isn't but he thinks he's sick. While his mom and sister debate, Simon starts getting anxious and smashes his computer desk. The women are clearly afraid and Simon is mortified. They leave him alone and he starts losing it. He calls Clary and leaves her a voicemail saying he thinks he's becoming a vampire. He starts seeing Camille in his room and he flips and punches his mirror. Then he takes off and runs to the Hotel Dumort to find her. is mom and sister come back into his room and are horrified to see it is completely destroyed. Simon breaks into the hotel and searches for Camille or Raphael. He finds Camille and asks if he's becoming a vampire. She laughs and says no he just has her blood in his veins and it'll wear off soon, until now. Then she charges at him.
