In this episode we meet Maryse Lightwood, Alec and Isabelle's "delightful" mother. It's clear Alec is her favorite and that Maryse and Izzy don't have the best relationship, although she apparently adores Jace. Maryse sends Jace and Izzy on a mission to get intel from the Seelies. Jace asks Alec to watch Clary and make sure she's safe.
Alec and Clary have differing opinions on how to hunt down Valentine. As a result, Alec takes the necklace Jocelyn gave Clary and hides it. Alec starts to work with Clary on her fighting skills. Alec gets a call from Magnus who asks him out to drinks. Alec sort of agrees until he realizes that Clary is gone. He hangs up and Magnus thinks Alec is playing hard to get.
Clary is trying to meet up with Simon when her phone goes off and Alec appears behind her. He lets her know that if she plans on using an invisibility rune, then she should probably silence her cell phone. She insists she is going to her house to find a box that her mother used to get out once a year and that she thought belonged to her father. Alec is annoyed but he knows he's not getting Clary back to The Institute. They meet up with Simon and Clary apologizes for not calling him back and they decide to take a back way to her home. Simon jumps a fence and Alec is concerned by how agile he is.
When they reach the apartment, Clary notices that the walls outside are covered in runes, but she was never able to see them. Alec suggests a warlock helped hide them and Clary remembers Dot. They find a heart on the wall with Clary and Simon's initials and Clary reminisce's about how they were engaged when they were 8 years old. Alec could care less. Simon breaks open the door which concerns Alec even more and Clary heads to her room. She's amazed at the destruction and Alec reminds her it was for a good reason. They find the box under a floorboard. The box is beautiful and has the initials J.C. on it which confuses Clary. She opens it and is disappointed the cup isn't in there. They hear something and Alec tells them to stay put. He goes outside to investigate.
The box goes in Clary's bag and she and Simon try to escape when they are arrested by Luke's partner Alaric. They're taken to a Chinese restaurant called the Jade Wolf. A man interrogates Clary about the Mortal Cup and tells her that he wants it. She tells him she doesn't know where it is so he has one of his lackies take Simon to the back.
Alec realizes that Clary and Simon are gone so he calls Jace. Jace and Izzy are talking to Meliorn, trying to find out if they are working with Valentine. According to him, the Seelies are sitting this out and will support whichever side wins. Jace is furious that Alec "lost" Clary so he and Izzy take off. They meet up with Alec and try to track her, but they're unable to. Clary's phone begins to ring from inside her bag so Jace pulls it out and is surprised to hear Simon's voice. He asks Simon where they are and he tells them a Chinese restaurant. He finds a menu and gives Jace the address. Jace gives him instructions on what to do and Simon reluctantly agrees.
Clary's interrogator tells her that she better give up the Mortal Cup or Simon will die. He invites out an enormous wolf and Clary pieces it together that they're werewolves. He tells her the the wolf is going to rip Simon apart. Clary says the Mortal Cup is in a box under the floor boards in her bedroom at home. He sends 2 men to go get it and promises Clary that if she's lying, he'll make her watch Simon die. Simon lights a fire which causes the sprinkler's to go off and the wolves run out with Clary, they lock her in a shipping container. She tries to draw a rune to get out, but it back fires. The door opens and Luke is standing there. Clary is terrified and before Luke can explain, he's attacked. Clary finds herself with Alec and Jace as Izzy breaks out Simon. They become surrounded by wolves and try to figure out their escape. Just then, they hear 2 wolves fighting and Jace suggests that someone is trying to take over the alpha position. The new wolf wins the battle and the others bow to him. He phases to his human form and Clary is astonished to see Luke, He is severely injured. Clary runs to him and says they need to get him to a hospital. Jace says he's got alpha venom in him and only a warlock can help. They decide to take him to Magnus. Alec and Izzy are hesitant to Jace ditches them as Simon drives them to see the High Warlock of Brooklyn.
